| The Cottage, a 1944-sq-ft, Craftsman-style modular residence
by Genesis Homes (Chandler, Ariz.), captured this year’s
Production Home Over 1400 Square Feet award at the 2003 National
Congress & Expo .
The
Cottage is one of the many Genesis models offered as a propane
home. The residence can be plumbed for General Electric, Rheem,
and Nordyne gas appliances that include furnaces, water heaters,
clothes dryers, cooktops and ovens, multiple fireplaces, and
even outdoor lights and refrigerators, said Byron Stroud,
sales manager.
Stroud added that the standard-package Btu demand for a Genesis
home roughly the size of the Cottage is 2950 with an additional
3000-Btu draw for a residence equipped with a propane refrigerator.
In addition, the Cottage is a high-performance Energy
Star home that provides owners with better indoor air
quality and lower utility bills.
The National Congress & Expo, held in Las Vegas in May,
was highlighted by a fully-constructed Cottage home on the
exhibition floor. The residence, offered in both one- and
1 1/2-story configurations, is available with two bedrooms
and a den or three bed-rooms, as well as two baths.
The flexible, open floor plan also includes a great room
and a dining room. Kitchens can be moved to the front of the
home, and the attic can be converted to a second story for
additional living space. Basement access can be accommodated.
Among
the interior appointments are built-in cabinets, large baseboard
and crown moldings, a built-in media center with cabinets,
ceramic tile kitchen counters, and tiled baths.
Exteriors are accented by lap siding, wide front porches,
and dormer windows. There are transom front doors with sidelights.
Patio doors open to decks, and either attached or detached
garages are available. The attached garage option defines
the boundaries for a courtyard.
Genesis Homes’ Americana Series, which includes the
Cottage, features a range of home styles from bungalows to
two-story residences. Interiors are from 1300 to 2400 sq ft.
The homes feature a variety of flexible floor plans and an
assortment of exterior designs appropriate for different regions.
Genesis Homes is a member of the Champion Enterprises (Auburn Hills, Mich.)
family of homebuilders. The prestigious industry design awards
were judged by an independent panel of architects and planners.
“We are proud to present the Cottage, and its counterparts
in the Americana series, as both a housing solution for the
redevelopment of older, urban neighborhoods
